How to Convert Window 8 back to the "Classic View" of Windows 7
With the release of Windows 8 the reaction from consumers regarding the new interface has been far from congenial. In fact the blogs and support forums have been on fire with hostile comments and a very high level of displeased users. Many have been even more upset finding that downgrading back to Windows 7 is not so easy due to the fact the formatted hard drives are not compatible with each other.
Well we have found some answers to help you with your frustrations. Changing Windows 8 back to the "Classic" format of Windows 7 with its start menu and familiar structure isn't very complicated at all; compared to trying to downgrade back to Win 7, of which most manufacturers will not support. Regardless, the process is as follows:

  1. Just start to type the word "regedit" on your keyboard. You don't have to open anything because by typing the word "regedit" it will open automatically. Note: Type the word regedit WITHOUT the quotation marks.
  2. This will open up a window called the "registry editor" (Warning: ONLY ACCESS THE FILES WE TELL YOU TO; this is not the place to go experimenting. Messing with these files can shut your windows program down completely)
  3. You will notice there are folders on the left of the window with arrows to the left of the folders shown.
  4. Click on the arrow for the folder titled "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". Folders will be revealed under this directory.
  5. Click on the arrow for the folder titled "Software". Again this will expand other folders.
  6. Click on the arrow for the folder titled "Microsoft". Again this will expand other folders.
  7. Click on the arrow for the folder titled "Windows". Again this will expand other folders.
  8. Click on the arrow for the folder titled "Current Version". Again this will expand other folders.
  9. Click on the arrow for the folder titled "Explorer". Again this will reveal some files.
  10. Click on the file titled "RPEnabled". This will open a popup window.
  11. Here you will see a number in a text box with the value of 1.
  12. Change the number 1 to Zero.
  13. Click "OK" and close the box.
  14. Close the entire regedit window
  15. Go back to the desktop and you will see the classic looking start menu.
  16. If you want to reinstate Windows 8 just do the same thing all over again but just replace the zero with 1.
  17. And that's it. Very simple and easy. And you didn't have to take your laptop to someone down the street at a repair center to have it done.
  18. Now just go and enjoy your new laptop with the features your used to using.

"I wanted to leave some very positive feedback for this company. I am writing this from the custom laptop I bought from them. Their customer service is excellent and they do what it takes to get the customer satisfied! I purchased a laptop from them last month and it arrived damaged due to rough handling by UPS. They provided me a return label right away and shipped out a replacement as soon as they were able to inspect and put a new custom laptop together. I also want to add they upgraded my shipping at no additional cost to help insure the package would arrive on the one day of the week UPS delivers that I have off. They did this for both the original shipment as well as the replacement. It would have been more covenient if I could have had it shipped to my workplace instead, but I understand that there is a lot of fraud going on when dealing with high dollar items such as laptops and they are only protecting themselves.

Turn around time seems to be about a couple business days from when they receive the order plus shipping time. Very reasonable. I did a lot of searching online and no one does custom laptops as fast or as affordably as this company does.

Bottomline, a very classy company! I would do business with them again!"

"In all my years on the computer, I've never had this much fun. This company truly is the king of upgraded computers. I got a 3 pound ASUS U24E and it is so fast it can boot in less than 10 seconds, shut down in less than 7 seconds and it can render video and extract massive rar files twice as fast as my desktop that has AMD quad. I don't know how these guys sell a 3 pound laptop that is so fast. Maybe its the i7 quad core processor and the SSD drive but its amazing how much power can come from such a small laptop. As far as their service goes, its fantastic. We are talking shipping same day, the laptop delivered in 2, and when I wrote message to them about how to turbo boost they replied straight away in less than an hour with actual helpful educated advice. I certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for an extraordinary computer because they sure have some like that."

"There is no better place to purchase computers. Period.

To make a long story short, I tried dealing with Lenovo directly first, and then after several failed attempts, and nearly a month of various manufacturing delays (excuses) on their side to build and ship a customized-to-order laptop, I gave up and went to Computer Upgrade Kings. 

Not only were they able to build a customized laptop, but they were able to build it in one day and send it out for next day delivery. In fact, they were able to build it and ship it at a lower cost than Lenovo did.

What even further added to the experience was that they spoke english clearly and had a can-do attitude. All Lenovo could do was offer their appologies.

I highly recommend Computer Upgrade Kings for all laptop purchases."

"I just got my G74SX-XT1 from these guys, which included a CPU and RAM upgrade, and shipping all the way to Singapore. The hardware is fantastic, I'm really pleased with it. Just done my routine wipe, format, partition and MemTest and everything seems to be in perfect order.

Absolutely stellar service from the guys handling the email, very prompt and polite and always keeping me up to date. 5-star service. Even after shipping and duty the total order was still several hundred dollars cheaper than local deals, and that even includes IT fairs.

It may be a while before I need to get a new laptop, but when I do I'll be checking these guys out first. Thanks again!"

"In 2009 I needed a serious replacement laptop that could keep up with current technology but also support 32 bit equipment that was not upgradeable and too expensive to replace. BluRay with a burner was a must as stand alone machines were quite pricey at that time. BluRay being 64 bit only presented the problem of "Now what?" Enter, ta da!! Computer Upgrade King!! Robert and his team had developed a version of XP Pro in 32 bit that also supported full function Blu Ray. That OS satisfied my needs for more than a year. When it came time to step up to a 64 bit OS the original Vista factory loaded system was out of date, replaced with W7. Again Computer Upgrade King stepped up and made available an inexpensive solution to enable W7 to be installed on my Sony VGN-FW390. Buy from them again? In a heartbeat!! "
